A practical priority: Brilliant Reflective Strips

Disclaimer: I received a set of Brilliant Reflective Strips to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (Ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews.

If you consistently run, cycle, or exercise outdoors and lead a busy life like me, there's a really good chance you're out there when it's dark, whether it's early in the morning or late at night. And the truth is that while there is some athletic gear sold today that does include or provide reflective elements within it, there is plenty that either does not include any, or when it does, it does not do so in an effective way.

Enter the Brilliant Reflective Strips that I have tested over the last few weeks and have found to be quite valuable and practical. Why? Here are the reasons:

The strips come in both an Iron-On as well as a Stick-On version. They are sold and retail for $14.95 per pack of 12 strips each for the Iron-On, and $14.95 per pack of 8 strips each for the Stick-On. There are also multi-assortment sets offered (with 4 packs on each set) that include all four colors offered on the strips (blue, red, purple, and black) and for which there currently is a 25% discount code offered through the following link: bit.ly/BRP25

They all provide high-quality 3M Scotchlite reflective material that can be applied to a large variety of gear to help users be visible at distances of up to 500 feet in the dark or low-light conditions. When you consider this price and the protection it offers, in my humble opinion, they represent and deliver high value at an extremely reasonable cost, as safety is a top priority for me.

I feel this might be the best aspect and characteristic of this product. With the Stick-On version of the reflective strips, you can apply them to a LARGE variety of gear. The Iron-On strips are designed for use with clothing such as jackets, pants/shorts, and shirts since those items obviously undergo frequent machine washing and require a more permanent reflective solution as a result. The sky is the limit, but combined, here are just a few of examples of gear you can place the Brilliant Reflective strips on:

- Clothing

- Helmets

- Bikes

- Scooters

- Strollers

- Backpacks

- Water Bottles

- Hydration packs

- Bike pedals

- Shoes

- Dog Leashes

- Running Belts

Here are the strips (color red) on the back of my wife's running jacket---indoors first, then outdoors at night with light reflecting on them:

Here are the strips on a bicycle helmet, showing their reflection to the left on a dark setting:

Here are the strips, in blue, on one of my long-sleeve running shirts showing the difference between daytime and nightime with light reflection:

Clearly, they are an extremely effective way of reflecting light in dark conditions as shown through these tests and on these images.

Both the Iron-On and Stick-On versions are quite easy to apply, taking nothing but just a couple of minutes of time to do so. The following videos show how simple it is for both:

Importance and conclusion

Simply put, anything that I can do for this low of a cost that can help me return home safely after my workouts is not only important and makes sense, but is also the responsible thing to do for myself, as well as for my family and loved ones.
