The weather for the inaugural DAV 5K race, held this past Saturday, November 3rd at the Kemah Boardwalk in Texas was ideal for running, and combined with great attendance and participation from runners as well as cheering friends and family, made for quite a successful and enjoyable day.
The Kemah DAV 5K is one of several 5K events that are part of a series held around the country in which participants run, walk, roll, and motorcycle with the goal of giving thanks to all those who served in our armed forces and raise awareness of the issues that our ill and injured veterans face every day.
As a non-profit charity organization, DAV (Disabled American Veterans) raises funds through these 5k races to accomplish the following worthy goals:
Provide free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service.
Provide outreach concerning its program services to the American people generally, and to disabled veterans and their families.
Represent the interests of disabled veterans, their families, their widowed spouses and their orphans before Congress, the White House and the Judicial Branch, as well as state and local government.
Extend DAV’s mission of hope into the communities where veterans and their families live through a network of state-level Departments and local Chapters.
Provide a structure through which disabled veterans can express their compassion for their fellow veterans through a variety of volunteer programs.
The DAV5K in Kemah was one of the first three events to be held on the series this year. One of our awesome BibRave Pros, Virjinia, participated in the Kemah event last weekend and published a great post-race review about it: https://www.withpurposeandkindness.com/honoring-vets-at-the-dav-5k.
This upcoming weekend there will be three more held in the cities shown on the following chart, one of which I will feature in tomorrow’s post, so be sure to come back to check it out!
