Product Review: Knockaround sunglasses
Disclaimer: I received two pairs of Knockaround sunglasses as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro by going to https://www.bibrave.com/bibravepro. Find reviews for races of various distances at www.bibrave.com.
The models that I received to test and review are the Torrey Pines Sport Morning Moon and the Pacific Palisades Soul Surfer sunglasses. On the photo below, the Torrey Pines are on the left with the black/gray frames and rose lenses, and the Pacific Palisades with the blue frames to the right.
Both of these models feature quite an attractive and appealing design. They come in a large variety of frame and lens colors, and more than likely at least one of them will suit your particular style and preference. Within each model, you will find several options to choose from.
Reliable and functional
I have found both of these models I tested to be lightweight and well constructed, featuring high-quality polarized lenses. I felt that their lenses protect my eyes well and block out the sun effectively. I used the Torrey Pines mostly for running and driving, and the Pacific Palisades for driving and hanging around the pool or grilling, each time with very bright and sunny conditions.
The reason why I prefer to use the Torrey Pines for running is that they have rubber nose pads which are great at keeping the sunglasses in place instead of sliding down as you sweat and move. Last month I raced the Urban Bourbon Half Marathon with these and they stayed perfectly in place the entire time as I was to successfully push my pace to a a new PR.
Another component I have found to be of great quality which also helps make these Knockaround shades great for sport is their arm hinges. They have just the right tightness and help provide an excellent fit for me. Over the years I have often come across sunglasses which have arm hinges which are either too loose or too tight, or that soon after a couple of uses, they lose tightness to where they have become very loose to wear, in particular for sport. Yes, sometimes those hinges can be tightened, but that is a hassle since even after doing so, after a while the small screws on the hinges simply cannot be tightened down anymore and the arms just stay loose all the time.
I feel that both models are very reasonably priced at $30 (Torrey Pines Sport) and $25 (Pacific Palisades) and are well worth that amount given their quality and attractive design.
In conclusion, I have enjoyed these Knockaround sunglasses and can definitely recommend you consider them the next time you are looking into purchasing sunglasses.
