The Urban Bourbon Half Marathon has been on my bucket list for years now, and I am finally getting to run it next week, on Saturday, October 16th. There are several reasons why I decided to sign up for it, but the following are the top 3 things I'm looking forward to enjoying there:
Running a top-rated race
For a number of consecutive years, this race has been one of the top-rated half marathons in the BibRave100 list and I have read and heard nothing but great things about it. Runners consistently vote for this race to be included in the BibRave100 and rave about how unique and well-organized it is, as well as its awesome course scenery and post-race party.
While this year a course change was needed due to staffing issues with the local police department, the new route promises to be a great one as well, as it crosses the Ohio river and runs into Indiana and back to finish in downtown Louisville.
I must admit that I am a big fan of bourbon, and the samplings provided post-race is one of the features which participants raved about the most. This year, at the "Bourbon Bash" in downtown Louisville there will be plenty of bourbon on-hand from several Kentucky Bourbon Trail distilleries, along with live band music, food, beer, and great photo opportunities.
Meeting fellow BibRave Pros
It is always a unique experience to have the opportunity to not only meet but also run a marquee event like the Urban Bourbon Half with other BibRave Pros. We generally interact with one another quite a bit on social media, such as during our monthly Twitter BibChats. However, it is not often that we get to meet face-to-face and run together, as we live literally all over the country, so being able to experience this with a few of them will definitely make it a special weekend for me.
Interested, but haven't signed up yet? Luckily, you're still in time, but you better hurry---less than 200 spots remain open, as entries are capped at 2,300 this year.
